"Chilly Spring Walk" by Lynda Cookson

It's just the right time of year for a "Chilly Spring Walk" in your local nature trail (if you're in the northern hemisphere like we are!). The days are really beautiful with ever-changing days of April showers, sunshine and nippy breezes, and light white clouds in the blue sky. All the little flowers are heralding the onset of Spring and I am having loads of fun picking little wild posies to dot around the house. Lawn Daisies are my favourites and I love how they pop up within hours of the lawn being mown.

My "Chilly Spring Walk" painting, oil on paper, is available as the ORIGINAL HERE

"Red Poppy" by Lynda Cookson

I just put this one up today. The Poppy Collection I did a couple of years ago, whilst working towards a commission painting, remain one of my favourites. They usually pop up where their scarlet petals show up best, in fields of Lavender or Corn. This is what google has to say about what Poppies represent:

"In the spring of 1915, shortly after losing a friend in Ypres, a Canadian doctor, Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae was inspired by the sight of poppies growing in battle-scarred fields to write a now famous poem called 'In Flanders Fields'. After the First World War, the poppy was adopted as a symbol ofRemembrance."

This painting is simply called "Red Poppy" and is a palette knife painting (what else if from me! LOL) on paper, with a white matt board. It's set against a creamy yellow background as if waving around happily in a field of corn.

The unframed measurements are Width 12" by Height 11" (or Width 30 cm x Height 28 cms)

"Summertime" by Lynda Cookson

It's hard to believe that it's been two weeks since I've had a chance (and the energy in this heat!) to write a few words and upload another painting. Time flies for sure when you're having fun.

Life is full of extremes it would seem ... it always seems to be cold Winter or hot Summer. What happens to balmy Spring and cooling Autumn? They zip by without even a greeting some years. We're either not doing things around the house and garden because it's too cold and icy, or we're wishing we weren't doing things around the house and garden because it's too jolly hot!

In the spirit of heat, here's ...

"Chilly Spring Walk"

A new one - in fact the first one of thirty as I've just taken on the 30 Day challenge of 30 paintings in 30 days.

"Chilly Spring Walk" is an oil on paper, palette knife painted (of course!) and about 7" x 10" in size. Available to purchase.

Dipped in Cream

A palette knife was used in this painting to mainly to move the white background to places I wanted it to be. The other colours were dropped in.

"Dipped in Cream" is now at The Gaslamp Gallery in Gorey, Co. Wexford, Ireland and will be featured in their Spring exhibition.

Pair of Petunias

It's amazing how often a palette knife is picked up and used during the creation of mixed-tool paintings.

"Petunia Pair" - which is now being exhibited by The Gaslamp Gallery in Gorey, Co. Wexford, Ireland - is just such an example. The white background was spread with my favourite palette knife and bits and parts of the flowers were encouraged into place using that same palette knife ... and the other tools are a mystery! LOL Simply because I can't remember what I used!!

So often a painting is created while I'm in a sort of arty farty daze, instinctively using whatever medium or tool is necessary to create the final effect ... and, like a chef who doesn't use a recipe, it's hard to remember what was used, when someone asks at the end of the process!

You can access The Gaslamp Gallery website here: http://www.thegaslampgallery.com/
(You won't find my paintings up on the gallery at the moment as they are being held back for a Spring launching ... but they're there ... just ask!)

Spring Tea at The Painter's Palette

This Wednesday we're giving The Moycullen Shopping Centre a Spring Tea ... but they don't know it yet!!! On Tuesday we'll give all the retail outlets in the centre a call and invite them to choose tea or coffee and carrot cake, muffin or chocolate brownie ... which we will then serve to them, in their own units, on the morning of Wednesday 4 May 2011. Special Spring delivery. Ah, 'tis good to have fun as the sun makes its reappearance.

We're also happy to say that the Kids Colouring In at the Artists' Salon Coffee Shop in the gallery is going swimmingly! We've had loads of little hands clutching wax crayons and presenting us with their masterpieces to put up on the wall ... well, on the door into the working studio actually, as that's the only space left!
